IRBWise: On-Line Protocol Submission System

Overview
IRBWise, the University of Chicago’s online protocol submission and review system, is available for all researchers submitting through the SBS IRB.  Access the system at:

The SBS IRB no longer accepts paper submissions.  All SBS IRB protocol, amendment, and continuing review requests must be submitted through the IRBWise.  All currently active non-exempt protocols are available in the IRBWise system.

An account is required in order to access IRBWise and IRB protocols.  IRBWise accounts generally use CNET IDs and passwords, but these must be activated in IRBWise by the IRB Staff prior to an individual’s first use of the system.  If you will be using IRBWise for the first time, please send a message to the IRB Staff requesting activation of your account.  Please include your user’s name, department, University position, and CNET ID in this message.

Note: The Principal Investigator must endorse the new protocol application prior to submission to the IRB. If a protocol application is submitted to the IRB without this endorsement, it will be returned to the research team and will not be reviewed until the endorsement is received.

Additional Materials
The following items, when applicable, should be included with the Protocol Submission Form in IRBWise:

• A copy of any recruitment scripts or materials that will be used in the research;
• A copy of all informed consent scripts or documents that will be used in the research;
• A copy of all questionnaires, surveys, and/or interview questions or guides that will be used in the research;
• A description of the research methodology; and
• Letters of support or approval from performance sites (i.e., some research requires school district or organization permission) on appropriate letterhead. Note: Letters of support or approval can be submitted following IRB review, but final approval may be contingent on receipt of these materials.
